Mellon Proposes $10 Auto Tax and Broad Tax Plan
Secretary Mellon told the Ways and Means Committee in executive session of a $10 annual tax on all automobiles and trucks and a package of additional levies. The plan includes a 2 cent stamp tax on bank checks, 3 cent stamps on first class mail, higher cigarette taxes, and sweeping changes to corporate incomes and surtaxes to raise revenue.
