Davenport’s Stubbs Ferry Tale From Early Iowa History
Davenport Iowa began as Stubbs Ferry named for Capt. Stubbs US Army who lived at Rock Island four years after West Point graduation. He reportedly built a cave in 1830s near a mound’s mouth and was described as an eccentric genius with notable habits and family links in Barron’s History of Scott County.
