Washington reports the average price of new homes sold from April through June rose 6 percent to 54 700, the Census Bureau says. The price index for new single family homes climbed to 158.3 on a 1972 base of 100, marking the largest quarterly increase in four years.
Color reports show 1972 new home purchases would cost 79150 in 1977’s April to June quarter, with Q2 average 54700 vs Q1 51600, a 6 percent rise. Last quarter this steep was April–June 1973 at 7 percent. Housing boom continues in 1977 as August starts at 2.0 million units annual rate, up 32 percent from a year earlier.
