Yuchidori to be decommissioned in March 1978
The final World War II survivor of Japan’s naval fleet, the 307 ton Yuchidori, will end a 44 year career with decommissioning in March 1978. Launched in 1943 as a rescue vessel it later served as the Self-Defense Agency floating guest house for VII’s and housed the navy’s only women’s toilet. It fought in the Korean War and cleared mines for the Wonsan amphibious operation.
