After four days of captivity in a village schoolhouse 105 Dutch children were released due to illness among captives. Five South Moluccan separatists remained with four teachers in the school while 55 others and a train hostage group stayed held by seven assailants north of Assen.
George Willig known as Human Fly avoided a $250 000 civil suit after City Hall reached an out of court settlement. Mayor Beame set a $1.10 payment equal to one cent per story scaled during his 110 story ascent on the World Trade Center south tower.
A federal grand jury in Omaha investigates alleged NPPD money funneled to state political candidates via legislative lobbyists dating back to 1963. Subpoenas for NPPD officials include Robert Peterson and John Brogan, with testimony from Wayne Barber and Frank Ball. No indictments yet.
President Carter travels from Cape Canaveral aboard the Los Angeles, a nuclear powered attack submarine, with Adm. Rickover to study strategic force capabilities.
