Police officer husband charged in Lincoln sheriff dispatcher death

Lincoln cruiser officer William Welsh, 31, was charged with first degree murder for the shooting death of his wife Christine Duryea Welsh, 26, at their Linden Street home. The incident left their 8 year old daughter with relatives as investigators noted the gun used was a .25 caliber and the dispatcher was shot in the head.

Legislature Overrules Veto On New Criminal Code

The Nebraska Legislature approved overriding Gov. Exon's vetoes on LB38 and LB46, finalizing a revamped criminal code after more than a century. The 33 to 15 vote for LB38 and 35 to 15 for LB46 reflected shifts from May's tally as supporters touted delayed implementation to better study and possible revisions next session.

Budgets Pass Over Exon Vetoes In Nebraska Legislature

The Nebraska Legislature overridden two budget vetoes by Gov. J. J. Exon on Wednesday morning. It also set aside three Exon-edited bills while legal questions were checked. Budget actions included earmarking Department of Correctional Services funds for health programs inmate labor and recreation, and restoring a $587,200 cut to the legislative operating budget.
