Nebraska Blue Cross rate hike hits 135000 policyholders
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska will raise rates an average 29.4 percent for more than 135,000 policyholders effective October 1. The increase affects community rated small-employer groups of 24 or fewer, individual direct pay, bank depositors, and Medicare extended subscribers, but not larger merit rated groups. State Insurance Dept approval came Tuesday. policyholders will receive 30 days notice. The rise stems from higher claims costs and operating expenses, plus a $3.3 million underwriting loss in early 1977 and anticipated further losses.
