Alcoholism Legislation Endorsed by Allen County Council

The Allen County Council on Alcoholism endorsed a national program seeking federal legislation on alcoholism research and public information. A seven member Federal Commission of Alcoholism would fund research, information programs, and establish hospitals and clinics for treatment. Fire consumes two story building housing shops and apartments

A fire in a building with eight businesses and twelve apartments on the second floor raged for hours. Residents aided others as flames spread, with one woman perishing, seven injuries reported, and fire hoses kept from reaching a nearby nursing home across the street. The cause remained undetermined. Fire crews from on and off duty battled the blaze as explosions from volatile materials were heard early on.
