A Lesson of Wisdom and a Prophecy on Oregon Rights

Mentholon reflects on Napoleon at St Helena recalling youth memories and the bells of his past. The article notes a rumor that the Hudson’s Bay Company may sell reserved Oregon rights to the U S government, with Congress briefed before adjournment. The rights stem from the 1845 treaty and include free use of the Columbia River for trade and land seizures, viewed by some as burdensome to settlers.
