Men s club of Lafayette meets at Aullville in 1901
The Lafayette county Men s club held its seventy first meeting at Aullville on Saturday August 28 1901. Rufus Young presided and Fr Thums led a religious address. Members listed include Harley Realle Bedford Bailey Campbell Calvert Cunningham Emison Fitzgerald Handley Hargrove Hutchason Jackson Littlejohn Major Moore Neil Patton Ryland Prigmore Powell Smith Uphouse and White. Minutes from Mayview were adopted and memorials for deceased members discussed. The group visited the churchyard for a social meal under drought conditions and noted the strong community spirit of Lafayette county.

US Troops Hit by Insurgents in Samar Fight
A fierce clash near Balanguigan Samar left US Ninth Infantry with heavy losses. Only a few older men lit pipes as insurgents overran stores and ammunition, killing many and wounding eleven survivors. Captain Connell, Lieutenant Buwpus, and Dr Griswold among the wounded. General Hughes orders a counterattack as insurgents seize rifles and supplies.
