George B Gordon dies after illness. obituary notes public figure and lifetime service. Includes mention of William H Sherwood of Chicago, eminent pianist and composer, visiting director. Fragmentary text references medical adviser edition and stamps but is unclear.
Sunday ceremony at the Christian parsonage united Lyman Etham and Gussie Miller in marriage. Rev. R. B. Binney officiated. The couple, well known in Lexington, will reside in Kansas City where Etham works for the Kansas City Varning Co in the show case department.
A Sunday afternoon ceremony at the home of Geo Sheets united Walter Strutman and Miss Maimie Spruce. Rev H Bohn of the Episcopal church performed the service. The newly married couple left that evening for a brief visit in Kansas City.
Percy Little visited Eureka Springs for a few days. Mr and Mrs J C McGrew, a doctor, traveled to Kansas City on Thursday in their car. They returned by the Missouri Pacific Railway. Rev R B Briney went to Ken the day.
George A. O'hara died at his home in Clovis New Mexico last Saturday at about 55. He is survived by his wife and two children. His wife, Elizabeth Trigg Shields by her maiden name, is a niece of Mrs J C Lesueur. Mr O'hara's body was brought to Lexington for burial. Funeral services were held Thursday from the Episcopal church.
J L Long came back Thursday from a business trip to Kansas City, resuming duties at his local office after meetings with clients and partners.
Lieutenant George R and Guild of the South Infantry paid a pleasant visit to the office last Thursday after twelve years absence. He was in Wentworth class of 1898 and left to join the United States Military Academy at West Point, graduating in 1908 and serving in the regular army. He married a daughter of Major Lowe the year after graduation.
P Barry and Jodie Jones traveled to Kansas City yesterday on business and for visits. N E Basket and Hon Gordon moved to nearby St Joseph yesterday morning. Pauline Sellers returned from St Louis yesterday. Mrs William Davis and baby came back Thursday from a visit.
The Modern Woodmen of America will host a nine grand Fourth of July celebration in Concordia. An organized group has formed and committees are appointed to perfect the details. The program will include everything needed to make the event entertaining, and Concordia residents are known for doing things in a full and impressive way.
Mrs F M Hord journeyed to Kansas City yesterday to join her sister Miss Elsie Daniel of Osceola for a visit home. The pair planned a reunion, with Miss Daniel accompanying Mrs Hord on their return.
Gordon White from Kansas City came Tuesday to attend the funeral of his uncle George B Gordon. W K Weber was in Lexington on business. Mrs Howard Henry visited Higginsville then returned. Miss Maud Wright visited Waterloo briefly. The Gordon family from Nevada Missouri and St Joseph Missouri arrived Tuesday for the funeral. Wade Ticklin returned home to Salum Missouri after a few days here. E W Flournoy of Sedalia was in Lexington on business. Mrs Geo Colburn of Freeman arrived to visit relatives. Dr Geo Smith, visiting friends, returned to Bartlesville Oklahoma Tuesday evening.
Captain Fred A. Day, after ten years as a teacher and band director at the academy, retired Saturday night to run a book store he bought from E.G. Loomis. Captain Martin of Albion, Michigan, succeeds him. Day helped form the Lexington Marines band and led the academy’s music program since 1900, earning wide regard from former students and townspeople. Oswald Winkler traveled to Marshall on Tuesday for business.
