Death of Captain Edwards at 68 in Lexington area
Captain William Harvey Edwards 68 died at home Thursday at 9 pm after a brief lagrippe illness. Born Sept 20, 1856 in Woodford County Kentucky, he came to Missouri in 1867 and lived on farms near Wellington and Odessa before moving to Lexington in 1900 after being elected county treasurer. A Confederate veteran, he escaped from Camp Douglas after Morgan's Ohio raid and later settled in Canada until end of the war. He married Rebecca Henry in 1868, leaving two daughters, Josephine (died aged 15) and Willman, surviving with mother. A devout Presbyterian, he served as adjutant of the Sterling Price Chapter UCV, Odessa. Funeral at Presbyterian church Saturday 11 am, Dr EB Gordon officiating. interment Machpelah cemetery.

Captain Wo H Littlejohn died Tuesday at his Dover home aged about 83. Born in the District of Columbia, he served in the Union Army and lived in Wellington, Berlin, and Dover for about 30 years. He is survived by his wife, two sons Ead and Joe of Dover, and a daughter Mrs Webb Cole near Dover. He was a longtime member of Lafayette County Old Men's Club since May 1989 and took interest in its meetings.

A large meeting at the courthouse Tuesday night discussed securing right of way for the Bridge and Trolley line. Subscriptions totaling 1850 dollars were raised, with 200 more from Suburban Minstrels. Forest Shelby reported progress on right of way from Lexington township to the C and A railroad and 600 dollars in pledges if the line extends toward Mayview Odessa. A farmer contributed 200 and stood in the audience. William A. Whitsett received applause. The next meeting is set for Saturday at 2 PM.
