The New York Times critiques the Republican stance. It argues that nominating Theodore Roosevelt would force a clear anti Wilson choice and imply support for war with Germany and in Mexico. It questions Hughes as a candidate and condemns the party for lacking a strong, current program while praising his Americanism and preparedness stance.
