German Evangelical Sunday School Convention in Lafayette County
The German Evangelical Sunday Schools of Lafayette County held their annual convention at the church in this city with 60 delegates despite bad weather. Rev. Kruse, State General Superintendent, delivered the principal addresses in morning and afternoon. Special music by the church choir and a ladies’ dinner in the basement marked the event. All attendees called the session the most successful.

The board of curators has chosen Dr. R. H. Cooper of Fayette Missouri as president for three years to replace resigned President Smith. Cooper will assume duties at once and launch a summer campaign for students while serving as a Methodist minister. Smith plans uncertain future options and will be missed in Lexington.

Hix Bros Buy Palace Mercantile Stock at Auction
The Hix brothers John and E D Bix purchased the entire Palace Mercantile Company stock at 40 cents on the dollar after bankruptcy auction. Mércer of Iowa was the only other active bidder as the sale covered about 1400 dollars. The brothers plan to reopen the store soon with a large dry goods and notions stock.

James Hackler Marries Lena M Moore at Bride's Home
James Hackler and Miss Lena M. Moore were married Tuesday afternoon at 6 o'clock at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. Clara Moore, with Rev. R. B. Binney performing the ceremony. The service was simple and there were no attendants. They received guests and served refreshments before leaving Monday night for the groom's farm to begin their life together.
