The Missouri and Kansas Trap Shooters League held a two day shoot ending around 2 PM with Ed O'Brien of Florence Kansas as professional high gun at 384 of 400. A M Mastin of Kansas City led amateurs with 353. Aaron Eagan and Ragan were runners up. Tuesday saw O'Brien and Heer tie for second at 190 of 200. The next shoots are scheduled for August in Joplin and Clinton, with many members and guests in attendance.

City Council Holds Regular Session July 8 Actions
City Council met in regular session with President pro tem Aull and all members present. Reports from Police Judge Prison House Keeper and City Treasurer were approved. Claims were allowed with reductions. A light on Main Street between Fifteenth streets was debated with additions for Estill Heights. A peanut stand license was granted tentative for the post office and several city positions renewed. Council adjourned to meet July 2.

A report by A J Hamill assistant coal inspector records Lafayette County mines as the state’s second largest coal producer. In 104 openings, 23 shifts, 28 slopes, 24 drifts, with 16 steam, 6 horse, 25 hand, and some electric power. Ventilation via 19 fans and 35 furnaces. 64 long wall and one pillar and room mine. Winter employment averaged 1722 miners, summer 1840, with total winter and summer employments around 1802. Total coal mined 1 1 5? million tons, value about $1 238 008. 16 105 tons sold at mines, 631 049 tons shipped.
