Major Timothy S Chandler died at 7 pm Wednesday February 11 1903 at his Lexington home aged 76 He was born July 27 1827 in Louisa County Virginia and moved to Missouri in 1836 He served in the Mexican War and the Confederate army and practiced law in Lexington from 1872 until health failed Funeral held Friday at 10 am at his residence with interment in Machpelah cemetery A war meeting adopted resolutions praising his character and service to the bar and community and noting his kindness honesty and opposition to unnecessary litigation

Death of Capt William A Thornton at Higginsville Confederate Home
Captain William A Thornton aged 79 died Tuesday at 4 pm at the Confederate Home in Higginsville due to general debility. A Lafayette county resident since 1865 he served in McCullock's Confederate forces in Lexington, Pea Ridge, Corinth, Fort Pillow and other actions. He later worked as merchant in Lexington and Concordia, then county assessor, insurance and loan agent in Bigginsville. He leaves one sister Mrs Ann Tutt and never married. He was buried at the Home Wednesday afternoon.

City Council Reports Review and License Actions
At the regular monthly meeting the council received reports from city officers and committees. Most claims were allowed. The Electric Light Company was docked 50, the Telephone Company settlement questioned over city phone basis. Lunch wagon licenses refused after this week. The Register ordered to pay the Water Company 600. A committee was appointed to study a roughed rock crusher contract. Macadamized streets to be cleaned as soon as possible.

Grand Jury Passes On Several Criminal Cases
The grand jury found no bill in State versus Dr. R C Young for assault with intent to kill and discharged the defendant. It returned a true bill for State versus Lillie Walton, colored, on first degree murder. In the Ainsworth whipping case five indictments were returned, while civil actions were dropped in consideration of $1,000. The criminal charges remain.

Cable car fall injures man tied to Kangas Oils
A. K. Sandifer, formerly of Leeterton, was thrown from a cable car Saturday after a knot in the cable caused a sudden jerk. He sustained severe cuts and bruises and was picked up in a distressed condition. The accident occurred near a junction with weathered roofs.

Rev J Given reports from Rev John Bodacott of Bonner Springs Kansas that Little Lightfoot and his 14 year old son Arthur drowned while skating on the Koneass river. Bodies not recovered. A reward of fifty dollars for each life is offered.
