Sketch of Judge Alton B Parker as Democratic Hope
A profile on Judge Alton B Parker chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals, hailed in 1904 Democratic circles as a potential standard bearer. The piece outlines Parker’s background from Cortland County New York, his path from teacher to lawyer, and his rise through state politics, noting his reserve on politics and his reputation as a conservative Democrat who favors tariff revision. It covers Parker’s 50 years old frame, farming life at Rosemount near Kingston, and his balanced judicial philosophy including a key 1903 ruling on labor organization activity that stresses lawful strikes and the limits of strikes to influence wage and employment.
