The city council approved paving Main Street between Thirteenth and Sixteenth streets Monday night. The project aims to improve a key traffic artery linking east and northeast areas to the business center, and is part of broader improvements under the current administration.
Mrs. Sarah Charlton died Monday night at 11 45 at her Highland avenue home from old age and debility. She was nearly ninety and had lived in Lexington over 75 years. She was twice married and survived by one son from her first marriage, Tip Moore of Sage City Kansas, and two sons from her second marriage, William and Richard Charlton of Lexington. Funeral services led by Rev. R N Allen were held at her home Wednesday at 4 p m.
The pupils of the Conservatory Music of Central College will give a recital in Murrell Auditorium on Monday evening February 9 1914 at 3 o'clock. The public is cordially invited.
Monday night the first School of Expression recital was given in Murrell Auditorium. Miss Matealfs teaching was evident in a varied program with senior Beulah Henson receiving warm applause. Alonzo Lowe died Sunday evening at 5 30 at his Highland avenue residence from heart trouble. Born in Arrow Rock Missouri in 1854 he lived in Lexington since 1856 and worked in coal mines. Survived by his mother two sisters Mrs Harry Mountain of Lexington and Mrs A J Reeder of Hue Springs Nebraska and two brothers Daniel Lowe of this city and Phillip of Ottumwa Iowa. Funeral held at home Tuesday morning at 10 30.

Mrs Sarah Meierer wife of William Meierer died Monday evening at 5 07 at her home south of town from a complication of diseases. Born January 13 1855 in Cleveland Ohio she came with her parents to the county as a child and married William in 1880. Survived by seven children Lena Sarah Otto Lee Gus Albert Lewis and remaining county residents. sister Mrs BE A Clisby Chicago and brother William Berg Bonner Springs Kansas. Funeral held at home Wednesday morning at 1200 o'clock with Rev Ge Th Torry officiating.
Word received of the death of Mrs Margaret Bolton Tuesday morning at 6 in St Louis due to pneumonia. She was the wife of Dr T T Bolton of the city. Born June 5 1882 in Halifax county Virginia she is survived by three sons William of Portland Oregon Korpee C of Guthrie Okla and Rev Benjamin Bolton of Carroll County and Mrs Robert E Smith of St Louis, plus one sister Mrs John E Behind of this city. Funeral services conducted by Rev Warren P Clark were held at the Baptist church Wednesday morning at 10 with burial in Machpelah.
A. A. Krogdahl of the Bureau of Mines Washington DC will conduct a week long series at the miners hall at 7 PM to instruct local miners and others in first aid to the injured. Lectures and demonstrations will be open to all interested. Mrs Walter Callaway returned to her home in Kansas City Wednesday after visiting relatives.
The county court on Wednesday named Hugh C. Rogers as county engineer succeeding John Walker. Rogers, an honors graduate of the University of Missouri Engineering Department, has shown exceptional fitness through work with the Lexington Special Road District. Walker retires after three years of faithful service as county highway engineer and county surveyor.
Odessa High School basketball faces the cadets in Amalemy drill hall Friday February 6 at 8 pm. Odessa beat the cadet second team last week and aims to repeat with a strong home crowd. Admission is 16 cents.
John R. Potts sold his freight hauling business to Lee J. McFadin and will devote his full time to the passenger service. He will continue operating all trains and provide mobile service for out of town trips.
