Fatal shooting follows saloon fight in Lexington Missouri
Walter McFadin shot Walter Trail during a confrontation at Ruby saloon in Lexington Missouri after a dispute. Trail was wounded in the bowels and died at St. Mary's hospital Kansas City after an operation failed. A jury found McFadin responsible for Trail's death and he awaits preliminary trial. In Odessa and nearby areas several cases were disposed. Eugene Turner was found guilty of stealing chickens and sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. Martin L. Newby pleaded guilty to grand larceny and received two years in the reformatory after a Joy ride incident. Others pled guilty to crimes including turkey theft, felonious and common assault, with fines and shorter terms. Despite bad weather a large crowd attended the auction at City Hall for the Boys Xmas Fund. By five o'clock everything was sold and $150 net was realized. The ladies in charge thank Col. Deck Vandiver of Vandiver Bros. Higginsville for conducting the sale and all contributors who aided the effort.

A two room house belonging to William Rowe on Highland Avenue burned Tuesday morning and was completely destroyed. It was occupied by Charles Scott and wife, both described as colored.

Death of James M. Peak in Lexington at 90
James M. Peak of Lexington died Tuesday morning at 12:10 at his home 1207 Main street aged 90. Born April 25 1828 in Warsaw Gallatin County Kentucky he worked with Louisville and Nashville railroad then ran dry goods businesses in Covington Chapel Hill and Lexington retired after 20 years in Lexington. Survived by wife Isabella V Longdon Peak and six children including Dr James L Peak Laurence Peak Walter J Peak and Mrs J C Rush plus two daughters in Forrest City Ark. Funeral held at home at 2:30 conducted by Rev Robert L Cowan with Rev Xophon Ryland assisting. He was a Presbyterian and Mason known for charities.
