A severe storm caused extensive damage in the downtown area with the Baptist church heavily damaged and many buildings unroofed or flooded. Windows were blown in, telegraph and electric wires were torn, and roofs and skylights were carried away. Losses are estimated between six and four hundred dollars with wide impact across shops, offices, and residences. A brick house in old town opposite the Fort sold to Judge J P Chivn and Charles Lyons for 776. The Gatlin coal mine was sold under execution to Edward Aull for 625.

House Collapse Narrowly Hurts Ben Scott at Central College
Ben Scott narrowly escaped a fatal injury Thursday morning while raising a house for Green Shannon near Central College. The iron jack failed, a corner collapsed onto him as he worked under the structure. He was dug out promptly, bruised on the right leg but not seriously hurt, expected to stay off work several days.

Amy Estelle Crowder died Tuesday at 10:30 PM at her East Franklin Street home. A daughter of Postmaster J. M.
