Death of Edward Mark in Lexington
Edward Mark aged 46 died at home July 25 after a brief illness of typhoid pneumonia and heart failure. Born November 13, 1857 in Youngstown Ohio, he moved to Lexington in 1885 and ran a grocery business with relatives before retiring solo. Survived by his parents, siblings, two adopted children, and three sisters. Funeral Monday at 10 conducted by Rev B. Buincy, interment Machpelah Cemetery.

The Lexington city ordinance prohibits keeping for sale ale beer wine cider or malt or spirituous liquors on Sundays without written permission from the owner or custodian of any negro or mulatto. Cutting Scrape Between Range and Webster
Saturday afternoon about six oclock a fight occurred near the gas house between Al Range and W H Webster. Range had Webster arrested Friday for disturbing the peace and the fight followed. Range says Webster assaulted him and he used his knife in self defense, stabbing Webster twice in the abdomen. The wounds are not expected to be serious unless complications arise. Afterward Stange swore out a warrant for Websters arrest, but the facts led Deputy Kinkead to lodge Range.

Convict Ben Starnes Captured Near Lexington Junction
Ben W. Starnes, an escapee from Leavenworth penitentiary, was captured early Friday on Hardie road about a mile and a half north of Lexington Junction after being shot in the leg by an officer.
