At the George Thomas Cullom Post meeting in First Christian Church the Legion began a campaign with teams and a lunch by the Guild. Winners receive a banquet while losers pay the bill. Service men are urged to join and contact teams for details.
Mr Joseph R Hood and Miss Emma Pauline Long both of this city were married Sunday morning at 730 o clock at the Catholic parsonage Father Geo B Curry officiating A wedding breakfast followed at the bride’s parents home 786 Highland avenue The couple left on morning trains to Kansas City for their honeymoon Many Lexington friends wish them happiness and prosperity.
Miss Mildred Barron has been re-elected as a teacher in the Elm Park District at a salary of 110 dollars per month, up 35 dollars from last year. She brings four years of teaching experience, two of them in Elm Park, and works in a modern stucco building in a progressive district located about six miles south of Lexington.
The Economy Garment Company owned by Thomas McIntyre and H L Connell will lease the Turner B Hall and start making Women s House Dresses Aprons and Children's Rompers in about three weeks. They expect strong demand for garments Made in Lexington and plan to expand. A new gasoline gas pump installed by John Morrison Son will be electric controlled with a visible gasoline grade and canopy and fan for operator comfort. The Grand Jury finished its work with indictments including Walter McFaith for keeping a gaming house and Polk Fulkerson and Deelason Brown for gambling. all pleaded not guilty and were released on bonds.
The trial of Thos M Hofmann for murder in the first degree started Tuesday in the criminal court and had not concluded by press time. Jurors include Lon Braxdale Wm T Reznick Russell Woodruff Sam Derrsdale R J Walkenhorst Freed W Heitmeyer Arthur Kroermeke Walter Russell Joseph I Schaal Jr Jus H White and Albert Gillen. William H Worland, brother in law of Mrs Sue Boulware, died April 1 at his daughter’s home in Ochitree Texas aged 77 and was buried at Capron Oklahoma last Friday.
Alvin DeBerry of Missouri Gas and Electric Service Company sustained a broken bone in his right leg Wednesday morning when an electric light pole he was helping to unload from a truck rolled onto him.
Billy Shoemaker and Robt. Darnell traveled to Lexington Monday while Amiel Pauling was there Saturday night. Mrs. W. G. Harwood returned from Oklahoma City, Mrs. Roy Bertrand came back to Kansas City, and Dora Meng visited from Mendon with relatives. Vivian Eagan visited with her mother Annie Eagan, and many locals spent time with family or in Lexington events.
A wedding occurred on Wednesday at Kirty Roman Catholic Church Georgetown S A uniting Miss Marie Clara Paddenburg and Mr Elmer Edmondes. Rev F Killion officiated in a simple Lenten ceremony attended by relatives and the American Consul and wife. The bride wore ivory Crepe de Chine with crystal beads and carried lilies. After the service the couple hosted a reception at Dr and Mrs Prietans residence before leaving for Colverden.
Mr Henry Backs and Miss Tillie Graupner of near Lexington married at Trinity Evangelical parsonage Wednesday at 10 AM with Rev J C Bierbaum officiating. Bride is daughter of Mrs August Graupner. They will reside on a farm five and a half miles east of Lexington on the Dover road.
Mrs. John B. Logan fell on Tuesday while tending to her chickens and broke her right arm, authorities report.
Prof D W Branam is re elected superintendent of Higginsville schools at a salary of 2400 dollars. He has held the post for several years and also serves on the Lafayette County Text Book Commission, a position he performs as ably as his current duties.

A marriage license has been issued to Henry J. Bocks and Lexington partner Lexington Lillie Graupner. Chas W. Stewart and Maggie Hatfield appear as Lexington entries. Hedge Geo A. Bergsieker and Wellington Susan Boedel are listed, as are Joseph R. Hood and Emma Pauline Long with Lexington ties.
The County Conference of the Interchurch World Movement will meet at First Christian Church in Higginsville on Wednesday April 21 at 10 30 A M. The public is invited to attend and get posted on this movement. Sam C Major of Fayette Missouri congressman from the Seventh district has filed with the Secretary of State his declaration for renomination to that office.
H. R. Patterson traveled to Kansas City yesterday by motor truck and returned with freight for local merchants. He plans another run this afternoon and will return tomorrow with a new load.
