The big exhibition hinges on horticultural and livestock displays, with dozens of horses arriving, prominent judges, and a full midway setup promising steady crowds despite weather.
Farmers shift to smaller flocks buying from large band owners and fencing fields as Nez Perce prairie farms resemble Midwestern styles. Public lands shrink and government limits sheep privileges, driving sellers to dispose of a portion of their stock. Sheep aid farming during summer fallow, with higher headcounts offering clear gains as wool clips cover expenses and growth near 120 percent potential.
Mrs Foster Speaks at the Opera House to a large crowd mainly of Republican women. Mrs F B Wills presided with a gracious introduction outlining her public life. Foster discussed national issues, urged women to seek the franchise, and appealed for Idaho to elect a pro administration congressman and senator.
Republican congress nominee Burton L French will speak in Lewiston on October 27, in Nez Perce on October 29, and in Leland on October 3. He has drawn enthusiastic crowds in the south and southwest, and is expected to receive a warm reception in his friends home region.

Lewiston Normal defeated Pullman College 12 to 0 in the season opener last Saturday. The Lewiston team showed strength in line and back, while McFarland and La Point starred. Next game faces either Walla Walla or Oregon University. B A White of White Bros. heads to Potlatch to supervise packing of Hepler orchard apples, estimated at 10 000 boxes this season.
Spalding notes report Lewiston fair attendance this week and wedding bells expected in Spalding soon. Ray Walker from Moscow visited the Walker family. Mrs Lomax of Lewiston visits J H Wann family. About twenty five couples attended a Spalding hall social dance. Agent McArthur and C T Stranahan collected Indian rents at Kamiab. Twenty emigrants passed through Spalding en route to Ilo country where they bought homes. Nez Perce gathering at Tecominicum draws special interest with war dances and horse races. Indians along Lapwai creek prepare to move to Lewiston. Robert Brown, implicated in horse theft, pleads guilty and faces up to fourteen years. sentenced to twelve years. Frank McGrane called to San Diego for wife’s illness.
Large crowds gather for the Interstate fair with 1400 attendance on opening day. Extra coaches from Spokane run to the Clearwater line as over 300 passengers arrive this morning. Nez Perce arrivals include R L Spiker and W C Foresman who predicts a busy week. Foresman notes 300000 bushels stored at farmer warehouses, signaling a holiday harvest. Culdesac hosts a socialist rally with John A Davis and W Y Perkins addressing a Woodman hall crowd. supporters pledge full assistance and expect victory in local tickets.
Fully 2000 spectators witnessed a lively card this afternoon. Crooks' Will Chapman entry won the half mile green race in t seconds, Big Dutch captured the half running race weight for age with Goddess of Night second. In the mile race Rimera, carrying top weight, won a hard drive with Itate as favorite but second was Jim Bozma. The quarter dash saw Miss Miller prevail in a driving finish in 48 seconds.
Automobiles will arrive for Thursday’s racing as entries open. Tomorrow’s racing card features the gentlemen’s driving race with roadsters from Asotin Nez Perce Latah and Idaho counties eligible. So far only Lewiston and Clarkston entries. Spokane fair closed today and Northwestern Street Midway attractions will be located here for the rest of the week.
