Flax growers win lower freight rates to the east

Kendrick Gazette reports B G Peters earns thanks for securing new Northern Pacific freight rates to eastern terminals effective after June 20. Rates for flax from Orofino to eastern points drop to 60 cents per 100 pounds, Greer 62 1/2, and Greer to Stites 63 1/2 cents. The move boosts Idaho flax prospects, adds about 1500 dollars per year to reservation farmers, and counters earlier coast interests contracting most of the crop. An estimated 300,000 bushels may be raised this year leading eastern buyers to push for eastern shipments.
