A project titled Will Bridge the Clearwater The Site is now positioned opposite 1st Street with Seton Survey handling stakes and layout. The notice indicates a boundary and alignment plan for the Clearwater crossing work.
Construction to begin June first on the Lewiston Riparia branch along the north bank of the Snake River. The O R N grade will be widened two feet for heavier traffic under joint use by two companies. J H Smith of Smith Hale oversees the reinspection of the line and a bridge at Clearwater Point is planned opposite First Street. A permanent camp will be established three miles below Lewiston as crews reset grade stakes.
Boise meeting of the Republican state committee fixed the convention location and date. Delegates are apportioned by 130 votes or more from the last governor race, with two at large from each county, totaling 246 delegates across Ada to Nez Perce and other counties.
The senior class at the normal held an evening at L A Thomas home hosted by four gentlemen McKissick Thomas Couch and Cox. Lady members plus Shepherd Kroh enjoyed refreshments. Crescent string orchestra played. A magazine ad guessing contest awarded Miss Haver nick the prize. Strawberries and cream were served by senior boys in white aprons, and a serenade by Pres Knepper concluded the frolic.
Last Sunday evening at the Christian church the services were devoted to foreign missions and the children. The house was tastefully decorated with a profusion of roses and a ship representing the gifts of Christianity to heathen.
Dom stood on the rostrum as sails bore names like The Word of God Morning Star and On Earth Peace Good will to Men. Hull planks bore Trust Patience Gentleness Joy and Love. Children recited and sang while pennies marked ages filled the ship. Churches postponed events to the 15th due to a baccalaureate sermon at the normal auditorium.
Growing Nezperce will build a 6000 dollar school house and celebrate the Fourth with a strong program. The public library will dedicate its building on June 6 with an American history entertainment to raise funds for books and periodicals. District No. 23 voters approved a 6000 dollar bond for the new school, seven votes against. C W Thomas elected trustee for one year. The Vollmer Clearwater company began building improvements, with Crawford & Devine handling the nil and large crews at work. About 500 people attended Declaration Day ceremonies at the opera house and cemetery, Col W W Hammell delivering the oration. A Miss Perry party on Main Street featured games and prizes. The Idaho lawsuit over Sheriff Kroutinger expense claims was ruled advisory, urging legislature to appropriate funds. Fair & Thompson moved their stock to a brick building opposite A Damas.
Next Sunday marks the start of the sixth annual commencement week at Lewiston state normal school with events through Thursday. Rev. Lambert of Spokane delivers the baccalaureate sermon Sunday evening, Dr. Ross Baker of Boise gives the alumni oration, and Hon. James K. E. Babb delivers the graduating oration.
State University and University Invites list a week of programs for June events. Graduating exercises and preparatory school on June 7, Baccalaureate sermon by Rev I F Roach of Boise on June 8, musical concert June 9, dedication of new buildings June 10, Senior Class Day June 16, University Ovation June 10, commencement address by President Barton O Aylesworth of Colorado College on June 11 plus related programs and speakers in Lewiston and Spokane.
The Regents Faculty and Class extend a general invitation to attend the Alumni Banquet Wednesday at 1 30 p m and the President's Reception on June 11 at 8 30 p m as part of commoners week exercises.
Hon B F Morris dies at his city home at seven after a brief illness. He suffered a chill and bowel inflammation, high fever set in, and he passed away with J B Morris present. Ray Morris, son, will arrive today. He was a respected citizen active in public life and business, whose loss deeply saddens the community.
Race in Montona notes horses wintered at View land shipped to Montana for upcoming meetings. Brown stables entries Mise Miller Heperendo and Janot travel with the speedy Populist Tommy Tucker or Democrat aboard to participate in the four meetings expected in state venues.
Sam Goldstein of Spokane reopens the W 8th Street restaurant after refitting and refurnishing the space. He has engaged the best woman cook in the southwest for the new menu. A store and club rooms operate in the same section with the restaurant.
The performance of Crawford's Claim has been postponed due to the death of Hon. B. F. Morris. The local talent group suspends the rendition to honor his memory and reassess dates for the show.
The Gibson case testimony was heard with counsel arguing before Judge Reese. Page Miles eight records the proceedings as John appears for the state and Ton for the defense.
