Water Flow Studies and Milk River Diversion Proposal
U S Geological Survey reports on underground water flow using two test wells and an electrolyte trace technique. Findings show underflow rates of 3 to 15 feet per day in the Arkansas river sands. The St Mary Diversion Canal would transfer water from St Mary river in Montana to Milk river to irrigate up to 500,000 acres, costing under 5 dollars per acre with land value gains estimated at 3 million and a potential population of 130,000.
