Mormon Leaders Seek Justice Over Georgia Outrages
Senator Kearns Apostle Smoot and Ben E Rich met Attorney General Knox to relay outrages against missionaries Stewart and Zandell in Georgia. They allege local juries block indictments and expect a Justice Department investigation with possible federal convictions. A Georgia minister urged hush money to protect local mob participants. Rich cites widespread mob violence tied to anti Mormon ministers. Rich and Smoot press equal protection under U S law for Utah citizens. A Sevier and Sanpete sheepmen assembly at Manti on December 2 protests a proposed forest reserve spanning about sixty by twenty miles, with cattlemen opposing the move.
