Special Session Called to Fund State Education March 22
Hart issued a call for a special legislative session in Olympia on Monday March 22 to provide funds for maintenance of the university state college at Pullman and other institutions. It also seeks action on the woman suffrage amendment amid urgent advocacy by voting groups. Governors approval followed talks with university regents and appropriations legislators. If funds are not provided deficits of about 1.25 million will accrue before the 1921 regular session.

Mrs M J Ramage Dies After Long Illness at 86
Mrs. M. J. Ramage aged near 87 died Thursday evening February 19 1920 at the home of Mrs. J. H. Sharpe after weeks of illness intensified by a stroke five years ago. She was born Mary DeVelleng in Lindsay Ontario in 1885 and married Will J. Ramage in Isa. They later lived in Illinois and Seattle before returning to join her family in Yakima. Surviving are sons Will and Frank Ramage and daughters Belle Hines Jennie Lyman John Curits and Mrs J H Sharpe. The body was shipped to Seattle for funeral and burial beside her husband and son.

Fire scare hits Jap Town as neighbors quell blaze
A house near the west end of the railroad yards sparked a Monday fire alarm. The hose auto and firefighters arrived to find the blaze nearly out. Occupants and neighbors controlled it before the department’s arrival. A third alarm recently rang in the area. Wednesday another fire at the Peter Sauer residence from a faulty flue was also controlled with neighbor help.

Arrests in Creekside gold mine case prompt hearing
Warrants were issued in Justice Day's court for Arthur Brown former manager of Amalgamated Gold Mines Co at Old Blewett mine and his housekeeper and one Belknap. They were arrested at Waterville Washington and brought to Leavenworth for hearing. Charges centered on taking company tabs linen blankets and other items to Peshastin then billing to themselves in Idaho. The auto reportedly belonged to the company. Goods were found on a through train in Leavenworth. Attorneys arranged a conference and the cases were dismissed on advice of the assistant state attorney.
