The Leavenworth Chautauqua begins Sunday and runs through Friday at the new Gymnasium Auditorium on the school grounds. The event brings eminent lectures music and theatricals, supported by local backers to cover expenses and futures. Citizens are urged to buy season tickets for a nominal cost and attend for wholesome entertainment with proceeds aiding performers.
The Mill boys defeated the Railroad team 11 to 4 in a hot weather match. Mosquitoes and heat may have affected play, with rematches expected as the season continues. Mill players are elated and ready for further challenges.
Mitchell car owned by Green and Davis stage line owners, driven by Green, went over the Divide bank near Main Wednesday night and burned. Green escaped with slight injuries as the engine stopped and brakes failed, causing loss of control according to street rumor.
A reward of fifty one thousand dollars is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons poisoning the town with intent to kill. The caller seeks any light or tips to identify the suspected scoundrel and assist in the case.
J J Grant and daughter Laura join Mrs W T Hartman in Seattle for a few days while Ed Horner, after weeks visiting North Dakotans, heads home to Finley N D. He may return to buy a ranch and settle in Washington’s valley.
In Yakima last week the Triple Alliance convention backed a Farmer-Labor party. The vote split 149 for the new party to 57 against amid party lines and intra group tensions. Several groups shifted positions as supporters gravitated to or warned against a third party in state politics.

The Cashmere district of the Wenatchee National Forest now hosts a full service office with Forest Ranger Lee F. Chartrand in charge and staff overseeing grazing, fire protection, and communications. State Fire Warden A E Shaller also operates from Cashmere to cover Chelan county lands. Population of Chelan county rose from 15 104 in 1910 to 20 906, a 38 4 percent gain, amid optimism for rapid future growth driven by climate scenery and resources.
Mr. B H Bryan manager of J C Penney Leavenworth and Mrs Bryan with Mr and Mrs J W Taylor were in a two car crash on Blewett Pass two miles from the summit. A touring car driven by a woman crossed the curve and head on collision caused shattered windshield and several deep facial cuts to Bryan though not serious. The other car’s radiator was damaged. All passengers unhurt.
Robbers attempted to crack safes at Waterville and Wenatchee on Saturday night earning about $100, with two Waterville safes failing to yield entry. A Waterville Rogers and Howe store safe and a Columbia Valley Lumber Co office safe were opened with the same method, but no clues were found. Police note lack of local watchmen and burglars departed by car.
The unpaid portion of $125 000 gold bonds of the Peshastin Fruit Growers Association is offered for sale through Leavenworth State Bank in a half page Echo advertisement. The association is expanding its plant in Peshastin and stands as a leading West fruit growers group.
Mrs Mary Kinscherf writes the Echo denying neighborly interference in family affairs and requests fair treatment. The paper states its policy to avoid private matters and petty quarrels, promising closer adherence to that rule.
Mr and Mrs A B Wescott and their son Charles drove to Seattle Sunday night and returned home Wednesday evening with Mrs Wescotts sister Miss Alice M Hosmer of St Paul who will visit for several weeks.
