Silver Leaf Disease Seen In Washington Orchards
Silver leaf disease has appeared in many Washington localities this year. The condition causes a silvery leaf look on fruit trees such as plums apples gooseberries currants and related plants and is caused by a wood-decay fungus entering via wounds. Control advised is to cut down and burn severely diseased trees, trim and burn contaminated limbs, disinfect wounds with tar or creosote, and remove dead wood. Some fruit varieties resist the disease. Cow testing associations have tripled, rising from four groups with 1327 cows to ten with 4170 cows, boosting milk and butterfat testing.
