Leavenworth School Opening Plans Highlight Funding and Facelift
School opens Tuesday September seventh with no mid year promotions. Six year olds by January first may enroll. those younger wait until fall 1921. Teacher shortage noted with 3000 unfilled requests nationwide. Local effort includes a special music teacher, gymnasium auditorium prep, new cesspool, drinking fountains, lockers, chairs, and furniture for the new building.

Forest Fire North of Leavenworth Spurs Firefighters
A blaze discovered last Friday on Chewawa creek twenty two miles north of Leavenworth drew many responders. About twenty five men remained on duty as the fire, likely sparked by lightning, threatened a slashing area. The fire covered roughly a mile by mile long in Ranger Nickels' district with mines nearby burning. no farms were reported close by. Mrs Mary Walton and Miss Mona returned to Spokane after a visit with William and Ted of the Pastime pool room.
