October 1 is the deadline for second half county taxes with 3/4 percent interest on unpaid balances after April 1 for first half. Taxes accrue a year after incurred and may lead to sale at auction if unpaid. Tax bills include reorganized school district levies. Le Mars sees about 15 mills lower.
All American Legion members are invited to a free fall membership stag at the Country Club starting at 6 30 on Wednesday September 30. No admission charge. Entry requires a paid up 1960 Legion membership card. Those without a card may obtain one from a membership team near the door.
Miss Karen Mareen Liston of Sioux City and Russe Lawrence Brewer of Elk Point South Dakota were married September 19 1959 by Rev Dean R Orris at the West Side Church of Christ Akron. Attendants were Dwayne Arnett and Glenna Williams.
The Globe Sioux City Iowa reports a youth workshop at the DCCW convention in Sioux City on October 7. Very Rev Msgr Joseph E Tolan will moderate a Home and School panel led by Father A W Behrens with participants Miss Mary Gulles Michael Murphy Sister Mary Ryacinth Mrs Walter Menke and Mr Leo Fitzgibbons. An organization and development session will feature Miss Mary Ruth Lews speaking on resources of the National Council of Catholic Women introduced by Mrs Burton Dull. Mrs Roger Henrich and six deanery chairmen will lead an exhibit of the committee work.
In a soaked Westmar Athletic Field, Westmar Eagles and Graceland Yellowjackets battled to a scoreless 0–0 tie before 1000-plus fans. Both teams exchanged momentum with costly fumbles and interceptions as Westmar fumbled five times and Graceland intercepted four passes while both squads recovered two loose balls.
Two Le Murs youths were stopped by officer Joe Sutton near Foster Park on Central Avenue Sunday afternoon and given summonses for speeding in traffic court. An eye witness named Lowell Day said the boys "must now hold the track record for Central Avenue," as Central Avenue continues to draw impromptu stock car racers. Police fear the longtime record of no traffic fatalities is endangered by amateur racers. Names of arrestees are not released pending adjudication.
Teachers leaders in church scout and social groups will attend the annual festival of crafts at the old barn on October 2 3 and 4 with two sessions daily and an afternoon Sunday session. Lucille Sartwell lost control of a 1954 Chevrolet after hitting mud on the paving. The car left the roadway at 7:15 PM on September 27 at the 2nd Avenue and 8 W trajectory intersection, sustaining damage.
A special meeting of the National Farmers Organization will be held Tuesday evening September 29 at 8 at Eugies Hall Le Mars. Anyone interested is invited to attend as members will be selected.
Westmar College Evening School opens registration for courses on Sept 28 and 30 from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. Registration locations and cutoff evenings vary by course. Mr and Mrs Joe Staebell of Le Mars celebrate forty years of marriage with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday October 3. They wed September 30, 1919 at St Michael's church in Madison Minnesota. The Stuebells have eight children and have lived in the area most of their married life.
Le Mars records show Orville Durr Jr fined $12.50 in a city case for speeding in the mayor's court.
Mr and Mrs Robert Jaacks arrive in Le Mars to manage the Gamble store succeeding Ray Jenkins who remains in Le Mars as a field man. The Jaacks have two young daughters and will move when they can. Jaacks begins as manager on October 1.
The Barbara Gaasch improved 0 acre farm four miles south of Le Mars on the off road sold at public auction on September 25 to Mike Mill Mars for 272 dollars per acre. Richards and Ruden were auctioneers. The next day September 26 a six room modern house from the Barbara Gaansch estate sold for 10,175 dollars to Donald Holck of Te Mars, located at 215 Second Avenue Northeast.
Dwayne Christensen of Konaranzi Minnesota paid a $16 fine in a state case heard in mayor's court on a charge related to a valid chauffeur license. City fines included Andrew McClintock $12.50 for intoxication Harold Martin of Denver for running Mop sign $7.50 and Thomas Snegles of Elwood Nebraska $25 for speeding. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Herron of San Marino California visited in the homes of Miss Bertha Rothlisberger and Mrs Elizabeth Smith.

Visiting crews from Merrill and Hinton helped Le Mars firefighters save the lot surrounding the Gumm home on the town’s western edge Sunday afternoon. The fire began four times and was fought with farm water supplies in a staged demonstration showing new firefighting techniques and equipment.

Leone Frometer, 40, of Merrill, has been permanently disqualified from operating a motor vehicle. Authorities announced the ruling after a review, detailing the legal basis and implications for future licensing.
Dennis Lenihan has filed nomination papers for the November 3 city election seeking a seat on the Park Commission he previously held. Current commissioners Harold Ruden and Dr Woob Downing also serve six year terms. Lenihan’s term ends this year.
Westmar College participates in the government student loan program for this year. The total amount allocated to students is not disclosed. The largest loan approved is 800 dollars and the smallest is 100 dollars. A maximum of 600 dollars is set as the amount for any single loan.
A mishap near Curley Drive at 2nd Street NW and Highway 74 on Thursday August 1955 caused over 50 dollars damage to a Racip car and under 30 dollars damage to a 1959 Mullaily Chevrolet. Norman Kaerp drove Route 2 Mars. Ronald Mullaily, entering Curley's driveway, struck the Racip vehicle.

Elvin Austin age 17 of Ek Point South Dakota and Clearense Raecht of Akram to Darrel Gi Ben and Jochen F. Rindig beth of Weetfield secured marriage licenses from Plymouth County clerk of costs office during the past week.
Dr. Turke, a Westmar professor and psychiatrist at Cherokee Mental Health Institute, trained at Westmar College and the State College of Town, completed residency at Norwich CT, and serves as a lieutenant in the navy reserve. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, married with two children.
John Murphy and Mary Cain celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary at a rural home near Le Mars. Twelve children and many relatives attended, with guests including family from Ireton Sioux City and Fort Dodge. An anniversary cake by Mrs Eins Sorensen highlighted the gathering.
John Theisen and Mrs. Theisen of Queny observe their 40th wedding anniversary with a family gathering at St Catherine's Catholic church in Oyens. The couple married October 8, 1919 at St Catherine's. They lived on farms near Farley Joena Le Mars and Oyens before moving to Oyens in 1954. They have nine children and fifty grandchildren.
