The Choir, Organist and Choir Director of First Methodist Church walk to the Parsonage after the Thursday Sept 12 fall rehearsal. The program will outline the choir’s plans for the year and refreshments will be served by the church group.
Senior High Methodist Youth Fellowship held a Fall Round-Up Picnic at Stone Park in Sioux City on Sunday evening September 8. Rev and Mrs Robert V Gildner hosted with Miss Carol Ann providing organ music and Val Gene Moeller directing. Twenty MYF members attended as new MVF officers led meal prep and closing hillside prayers. Sponsoring couples were Mr and Mrs Richard Gulusha and Rev and Mrs R V Gildner.
Le Mars Lassies met November 7 at Judy Figg’s home with eleven members present and no leaders. They settled old debts, updated record books, and discussed a foolish prank by Bob Mauer involving a gas pipe. authorities removed the pipe and the plan was cancelled. Fort Leonard Wood reports Pvt Lawrence J. Kramer, son of Mr and Mrs Frank H Kramer of Le Mars, Iowa, is set to complete training.
Eight weeks of basic training under the Reserve Forces Act began Sept. 13 at Fort Leonard Wood. Monty Kurth of Le Mars enrolls at Morningside College after graduating from the State University of Iowa in 1987 and working for International Harvester in Sioux City. Westmar College offers Le Mars citizens season tickets for football and basketball, priced at 5.00, available at the Westmar office, Westmar Shoe Store, or at the football field gate. Catherine McLaughlin from Anamosa sails to Europe for a year of college study in Switzerland with other American juniors. Allan Neumeyer of Traer dies after a gas explosion injury dating back to late August.
Lightning struck a tree at the Buckroyd residence and entered the kitchen after the tree fell, shattering a window Miss Buckroyd had just closed. Darvin Rasmussen a 16 year old Independence youth received a minor arm abrasion when his car was struck by a passenger train and demolished. he was shocked but otherwise unhurt.
An eleven year old Acey girl Rosemary Lindeman suffocated after falling into an out sink. Attempts to revive her failed. The girl's father died about four years ago.
Mrs. Mary DeBettignies, New Hampton's oldest resident, marked her 100th birthday recently with family and neighbors joining in the celebration.
