Two cars collided head on near Gehlen high school injuring pegey-dreckman Dennis Haag 14 and Ernest Haag 6. Lerry Haag driver of a 1939 Ford was taking his brothers to school when a 1949 Pontiac driven by Miss Elaine Dreckman approached from the east. A passenger Peggy Dreckman 11 suffered severe cuts and bruises. Jerry Hawg suffered a broken nose and other injuries. Both drivers and vehicles were heavily damaged. Both injured were hospitalized at Sacred Heart hospital as of today.

Crash Victims Improve After Le Mars Head-On Crash
At Sacred Heart Hospital in Le Mars, crash victims from a Sunday head-on collision are improving. David Smith suffered a broken ankle and broken left foot with cuts. Alfred Miller endured a compound fracture in his right hand, a severe neck cut, heavy blood loss, and other injuries. Phyllis Ann Newman, Miller’s granddaughter, had cuts and shock. Bernice Newman, Phyllis’s sister, had lacerations and bruises but no serious injuries. The crash occurred at 10 30 p m on a county road about three miles northwest of Merrill. both cars were demolished.

German immigrant Max Yoerger 86 dies in Liberty Township
Max Yoerger who arrived in 1883 at age 17 died after a lingering illness at his Liberty home. He was 86 and 7 days, born in Gumshurst Baden Germany. Frank Geary 34 of Madison Nebraska dies after a long battle with lymphosarcoma. He received about 240 pints of blood over more than two years, mostly from Madden residents, with the Red Cross supplying the rest.
