Airman Killed in Training Plane Crash Near LeMars
Bernard Veldhuizen, aged 22, of Sioux City and employee of Johnson Biscuit Company, died when an Army PT-19 trainer crashed in a stubble field east of LeMars. The crash occurred about 10:15 am while Veldhuizen was maneuvering the plane, which was found with wreckage. his wife waited at the LeMars airport. The aeroplane, license N50301, belonged to Veldhuizen and another owner, and had been housed locally. FAA inspectors were summoned. sheriff and coroner controlled the scene. Veldhuizen left a wife and two sons Randy and Chuck. He was born January 25, 1923. The body was taken to Rutledge funeral home in LeMars.

Two Cars Collide at Intersection. Driver Ejected
A 1958 Ford driven by Robert Eagan of Pocahontas and a 1959 Chevrolet rador driven by Lanny Harms of Le Mars collided at the First Street and Second Avenue SE intersection near Wells Dairy at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Eagan was thrown from the car, landed on Heinz Wilms lawn, and was hospitalized briefly before release. Harms sustained head and leg injuries. both cars suffered extensive damage and were towed to the Smoy Brothers Garage.

Robert Wells, 16, son of Mr and Mrs Mike Wells, was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital after a one car crash west of Adaville.
