The Rural Youth Contest for Safety in Plymouth County features Scotch-Lite road safety sales, free bike safety samples, high safety meetings with a highway patrolman talk, and a Tractor Rodeo at the 4-H fair to curb accidents. Post Office Debuts 3-Cent Patton Stamp November 1953

The Fort Knox Kentucky post office announces a 3-cent stamp honoring Gen George S Patton Jr and the U S Army to be issued November 11 1953 with a Patton tank design. Plymouth County farmers may send soil samples to the Iowa State College Soil Testing Laboratory for rapid analysis. Extension Director Arle A. Boy Killed in Rabbits Hunt Accident

A 16 year old Eartham youth named Larry Waddell was shot and killed when a hunter fired at a rabbit. The incident occurred during a rabbit hunt with a companion firing the rifle, striking Waddell in the head.

Le Mars Adult Evening School enrolls 110 for program

About 110 adults from Le Mars and nearby rural areas enrolled Monday for three months of night classes under the Le Mars Public Schools. An additional 40 farmers are expected to join next Monday evening. Welding, machine work lead with 24 and 21 enrollments in typewriting. A $5 registration fee is charged for all courses except first aid. some courses may require extra costs for texts. The program operates under a community service plan with an eight-member Evening School Executive Council.

Good Will Drives Salvage Materials This Friday

The Good Will Industries track from Sioux City will collect salvage materials here this Friday October 30. Clothing of all kinds is needed regardless of condition and other items such as dishes utensils and equipment are welcome. Senior class at Le Mars high school will conduct an occupational survey with help from Harry Elsior and Mix Keaveny. Questionnaires will be mailed to local business leaders on November 17 to map employment opportunities and needed training, linking school programs with business, industrial, and agricultural life.

Quail Season Opens With Edges In Iowa

The Iowa quail season opens November 1 with the long zone running through December 3 and the short zone ending November 15. Shooting hours are 8 30 a m to 4 30 p m daily with a bag limit of six birds in both zones. Prospects are good despite dry conditions hindering dog scouting as quail populations rise in southern counties.

Westmar Supports Fund Drive For Needy Students

Westmar students engage in a World Service Agencies fund drive run by the YMCA and YWCA to aid refugee students with food clothing and books. Miss Marlene Bengel of New York spoke on campus about conditions for learners amid war disruptions. An evening event features a basketball game between seniors and faculty followed by a lunch basket auction and a “Parents Night” to boost support. Westmar football, coached by Stockman, faces Sioux Falls next Saturday seeking a win to reach half the 1933 schedule, on Oct 31.
