Calves Stolen Near Union Township in Bold Nightheist
Four April calves about 300 pounds each were taken between 9 30 and 10 o'clock Thursday night from a pasture near Union Township. Tracks show the calves driven to a road and loaded on a pickup. Jake Tammenga reported the loss to Sheriff Frink Scholer and offered a reward for information leading to arrest and conviction.

Private Clarence Anema, home on furlough, was thrown from a pony at the Andrew Anema farm while helping with chores. He suffered bruises and sprained ligaments after the pony jolted him off during milk chores. Anema had just arrived after basic training at Camp Chaffee and was slated for overseas duty in Germany. he left Saturday.

Train Wins Tilt With Automobile
Lawrence Korthal 25 of Boyden sustained severe injuries in a collision between a car and a Central freight train near George. He suffered multiple fractures and a head wound. Dr W S Balkenta described his condition as far. Korthal was operated on by Dr J W Graeham, a bone specialist from Sioux City. The crash occurred about 10:30 near George as Korthal was reportedly coming from a farm north of Boyden. The freight train derailed a boxcar and damaged a trestle. Korthal was treated at the George Hospital.
