Accident Report From Le Mars Northeast Highway Crash

A Tuesday evening crash near Le Mars involved a 1954 Chevrolet driven by Le Roy Jones of Sioux City. Jones and his wife and daughter were injured and taken to Sacred Heart hospital. The accident occurred at 6 20 with the Jones car overturning after leaving the soft shoulder. the front page notes the driver in fair condition. A 1952 GMC truck driven by Fred Adrian of Everly and a 1953 Chevrolet driven by Alfred Griz of Le Mars collided head on nearby at the same intersection, with damages listed at 50 and 125 dollars respectively, no injuries reported. Earlier at Ind street and Second Ave N, a 1949 Willys Jeep driven by James Green and a Dodge mail truck collided as Green was blinded by the sun. no damage estimate given. The incident occurred at 1 p.m. on Wednesday October 27.

Fredrick Bertrem Funeral Notice in Freton Breach

Fredrick Bertrem a retired Breton farmer died Sunday at his home after many years of illness. Funeral services were held at the residence and St Pauls Lutheran church in Freton with burial at St Johns cemetery. Survived by three daughters Hertha Dorn and two others, Mrs Herman Berman of Ireton, three sons Rudolph of Linoux City and Ernest of Hartky, twelve grandchildren and two brothers William of Linoux City and Ernest of Hartky.

Duane F. Douvin of Marcus and Darlene Hanno of Remsen were issued a marriage license this week by the Plymouth County clerk of courts.

Henry E Schipper dies at 83 after illness in Le Mars

Henry E Schipper 83 died Monday at Sacred Heart Hospital after two years of poor health. Funeral services were held at the 1st Baptist Church with Rev Frank Patterson officiating. He was born September 4, 186? at Pella and moved to Le Mars as a child. An operator for Cowver Transfer Co for years, he retired about several years ago. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and a retired Le Mars Fire Department member. He enjoyed swimming and summer sports at the LeMars pool. He married Flora Gee in February 1901 who preceded him in death. Surviving: daughter Mrs Clarence Cowan, son Wayne Schipper, seven grandchildren, great grandchildren, and several relatives. Burial at city cemetery under Maver funeral directors.

Talent Show Sets Big Night at Eagles Hall

The talent show staged by the Eagles club takes place Thursday October 28 at 8 00 pm at Eagles Hall. Chuck Wiley is master of ceremonies. Acts include Carolyn Pewis Dance Studio, Stardusters from Central High School, a guitar orchestra, an accordion band from Flood Music School, directed by Beverly Williams. Also performing are Dean Vander Well and Gary Zieg in a comedy act, Janet Jeffers on marimba, Lara and Jerry Noland as a guitar duet, baton twirlers, and other acts under Charlotte Campbell.

Merrill Man Ends Life With .45 Pistol

Clarence C Mor s a 58 year old farmer from near Merrill shot himself in the mouth Tuesday night. Coroner S H Luken ruled death a self inflicted gunshot from a .45 pistol and said no accident was evident. Mor s had been despondent after personal losses and recent isolation on his Glendale farm. He left a wife who died years ago and a daughter Mrs Ted Hoffman nearby. Services planned at Vernill Memorial Church with Rev. Neu mann and Rev. Harboer officiating. burial at Billids Cemetery. 7000 Head Of Sandhill Cattle Auction At Burwell Neb

About 7000 head of sandhill cattle are to be sold at the Burwell Livestock Market in Burwell Nebraska in a special Malay feeder sale. 4000 head will be sold on Wednesday November 3 and 3000 on Friday November 5. The sale starts at 11 a.m. each day. Le Mar feeders are expected to attend and more will be there based on advance indications.

No Word On New Armory For Le Mars

No official word has come to Co. K of the Iowa National Guard on plans for a new armory in Le Mars according to Sgt Kenneth Freese in charge of the current facility. A radio broadcast listed Le Mars among ten Iowa towns potentially receiving federal and state aid for armory construction under New Deal style programs. The broadcast suggested Ike administration funds may support thousands of new buildings amid a business downturn, a line echoed by Republicans as debt grows.

Bus Driver Hurt In Bus Truck Crash Near Sawhorn

Walham Tau, driver of a loaded Sanborn town school bus, was badly hurt Monday at 7:00 pm when the bus rear ended a stock truck driven by Daryle Swanson of Bigelow, sending both vehicles into the ditch on Highway 75 north of the Schiefen farm. The 27 Sanborn school children were not hurt. Ronald Huls faced charges of failing to have the vehicle under control.
