VanderMeers Entertained Thousands at Anniversary Bakery
Pete VanderMeer announced a record crowd at the remodeled bakery in LeMars on the 25th anniversary weekend. By 4 p.m. Saturday about 1,000 shoppers filled the store with many more observing, enjoying free gifts, coffee, and pastries. Cora Crowley led the organ from 2 to 5, as crowds toured the facilities and prize drawings were held. Winners not present may claim prizes such as a Polyflex Refuse Container and various baked goods, with numerous names from LeMars, Remsen, Ireton, Merrill, and other nearby towns listed for nonpresent winnings and cake or donut prizes.

Accidents Near Remsen and Le Mars Cause Injuries
A westbound car left the south side of highway 3 near Remsen around 6 30 pm Thursday flipping end over end. Harry Groepper, who lives southwest of Remsen, suffered cuts and bruises and was treated in Remsen. A separate crash near Union School involved Mrs. Herman Klaver of rural Le Mars with a 1993 Lord. she was treated after the vehicle slipped over a bridge approach as construction resurfaced the road. Her daughter was unhurt.

Westmar college defeated Central College of Fayette Missouri 33 to 7 in its homecoming game for its third win of the season.
