Kool Dudley D. Kool of Sioux City found Rober Fird a 37 year old refrigeration tech for the 53rd airbase squadron stationed at Sioux City dead on the road one third mile north of Leeds after his car struck a concrete drain guard. Fird lived in Menasha Wisconsin and is survived by his widow and three children.

Four Teens Escape Serious Injury In Remsen Crash
At 14 15 p m on October 9 a one car crash one mile north of Remsen on a blacktop road injured four youths all 14 to 16. The 1955 Mercury driven by Robert Nitzschke 16 Remsen route 3 left the road rolled into a ditch and was demolished. Schroeder 16 Remsen and Nairn 14 Remsen were treated and released after minor injuries while Phillips 16 and Nitzschke were kept for observation at Sacred Heart hospital. The ambulance and Dr George assisted at the scene.

Dorothy Meyer of Spirit Lake, daughter of Mr and Mrs George Meyer, captured first place in the junior Stock Class and also won the Powder Puff Derby at the Iowa State Quarter Midget Open held Sunday October 4 at the Spirit Lake track. About 40 drivers from Iowa and southern Minnesota competed. Dorothy drove a car built by her father and the Rumbaugh Bros. of Spirit Lake, powered by a 7.3 cubic inch Continental stock motor. Her time trial recorded 10.30 seconds. The Spirit Lake track meets national rules and is the only one in the northern half of town certified for state meets. Dorothy is seven years old in the junior division for ages five to nine.

The discontinuance of passenger trains between Council Bluffs and Minneapolis has been delayed to October 24. The southbound Le Mars train leaves at 2 50 pm and the northbound at 2 50 pm. An Interstate Commerce Commission authorization set October 19, but the date was extended to allow the express company and postal department to make arrangements. The Union Passenger Station at Le Mars reports the change. A daily Chicago line runs, with Le Mars to Chicago departures at 6 05 pm and arrivals at 10 00 pm.
