Mrs Chas Von Berg led a W C T U lesson at Mrs Marie Baldwins home with Mrs Wm Lemke assisting. The talk drew from a letter to Bill the Bartender arguing lower taxes and less crime by abstaining from alcohol. Mrs Lemke urged renewed zeal for total abstinence and Mrs W O Collins led devotions on Freedom.
The Seventh Annual Masonic Institute for District No. 7 of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons will be conducted at Seba Lodge No. 463 in Marcus, Iowa, on October 12, chaired by Reverend George W.
The Masonic Institute showcases the Speakers' Bureau and the Iowa Masonic Library under the Iowa Grand Lodge Education Committee. Prominent speakers include Edwin L. Lunde and Rev. J. Palmer with others from Marcus Waterloo Sioux City and Bettendorf. District 7 covers Lyon Osevola Sioux O'Brien Plymouth Cherokee and nearby towns.
About eighteen residents objected at a council meeting Tuesday night to Joe Fisch of Remsen proposing a funeral home at the Boylan house 527 Plymouth St. N. E. The sale had been announced but not recorded and opponents argued Le Mars does not need another funeral home. If approved Fisch plans extensive improvements. the council tabled the issue due to missing members.
Dick Hammon was appointed chairman of the Boy Scout fund drive in Le Mars on October 15. The campaign aligns with a state wide effort to fund Scouting programs, with a Dawn to Dusk drive to support 3600 Cub Scouts, 30,000 Boy Scouts, and 200 Explorer Scouts in the Prairie Gold Council.
The Le Mars council ordered a new fire hydrant for Greenwood addition and two street lights for Edks addition. City crews completed storm sewer repairs at Central avenue and Plymout h street crossings, prompting temporary street closures and tourist complaints about navigation. Tourists report a mag sign missing, but motorists can often use an alley to bypass blocked blocks.
Iowa farmers received more than a million dollars in soil bank payments out of four million dollars paid through Sept. 21, per the first report from the department of agriculture. Payments take the form of certificates that may be exchanged.
