Westmar College Band to Play Sunday Concert in Le Mars

Westmar College Concert Band under Latty Das will perform Sunday at 5:00 PM in Le Mars Central High School auditorium. A program features classical works by Handel and Beethoven, a hymn medley, and lighter marches including The Band of America. Soloists include mezzo-soprano Carolyn Rees and clarinetist Darlene Guzburg with other instrumentalists listed. no admission charge and a freewill offering will be collected. Ray Gunkle To Star At Sioux City Wrestling Card

Ray Gunkle the world fifth ranked heavyweight and protege of Jack Dempsey will debut in the Sioux City auditorium on Tuesday November 24. Dempsey regarded as the century’s greatest heavyweight will appear in person on the all star wrestling card with Purdue alumnus Gunkle a 6 ft 2 in 230 pound former national AAU and Big Ten wrestling champion who defeated Warne Gagne in college. Promoter George Parnasus says Gunkle faces top Ten wrestler Yukonbre and other stars will appear. Reservations and box office numbers are listed with prices including 150 and 200 while children under two pay half price.

Le Mars Marines Enlistees Depart For Boot Camp

Two Le Mars youths Anthony Broussleue and Lemna Farmer depart for boot camp at MCRD San Diego on November 17. Four others Stanley Plueger Richard Singer Richard Broulleue and Phillip Bytes completed 10 weeks of basic training in San Diego and are on two day leaves. Plueger and Singer were in the honor platoon. Training covered drill first aid hygiene map and compass interior guard duty military courtesy and basic weapons care. Recruiting is at the Stous City post office sub station.

4-H Officers Training School Sets Weekend Session

The annual county 4-H officers training school is scheduled for Saturday afternoon November 21 in the 4H building at the fairgrounds from 1:30 to 3:30. Dr Burgess To Speak Here At Sunday Service

Dr Burgess, formerly pastor at Le Mars Methodist Church from 1826 to 193, will preach at the First Methodist Church Sunday. He later led churches in Sheldon, Algona and Spencer and served as district superintendent in Algona before joining a charitable fund in the South Iowa Conference. He resides in Sioux City.
