Plymouth County Plans State Highway 12 and 75 Upgrades

Representative Lucken and State Highway Commission outlined 1955 Plymouth County projects. Contracts planned for Highway 12 from Rivertonworth to Broken Kerth, with paving toward Sioux City, plus widening north of Merino and improvements on No 75 from No 33 to No 3 and S. A new bridge north of Merino is planned and surveys continue for Le Mars. Road closures near Texark will be lifted as off highway 3 and west of Texark become county control.

Clara Owen Funeral Today in Holstein Records Honor Civic Leader

Clara Owen, 69, longtime Holstein businesswoman and civic leader, died Wednesday at Sacred Heart Hospital after a long illness. Born January 31, 1905, she founded the Clara Owen Shop in 1934 and later owned Pots and Teens Shop. She was active in Catholic and women’s groups and served in leadership roles. Funeral services were held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Survivors include four sisters and several nieces and nephews. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were named.

Observers Sisester Luken and Marsin Sinzer saw him on the road and alerted Deputy Sheriff Jimi Mertes, who brought him to his home. He claimed to be headed for Ponca Nebraska and authorities issued an alert.

Youth Dies in Car Found Dead After Sleep Stop

A 17 year old youth Courtney Sullivan of Av on County was found dead in a car after stopping to sleep. Sheriff Frank Nuni said death occurred between midnight and 4 am. The body lay in the front seat with ignition on. Coroner Marvin Singer ruled death undetermined pending further investigation. More than 750 attendees joined two services and an evening program at Trints Lutheran Church to mark its 60th year. Robert Mulder Killed On Highline Construction Job

Ronald Mulder, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Mutter of Sioux Center, died in a Northwest Iowa Co op substation construction accident near Hall Crow on November 5. A crane cable struck a power line connection as workers guided steel components. other workers escaped with non life threatening injuries.
