Clara Owen Funeral Today in Holstein Records Honor Civic Leader
Clara Owen, 69, longtime Holstein businesswoman and civic leader, died Wednesday at Sacred Heart Hospital after a long illness. Born January 31, 1905, she founded the Clara Owen Shop in 1934 and later owned Pots and Teens Shop. She was active in Catholic and women’s groups and served in leadership roles. Funeral services were held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Survivors include four sisters and several nieces and nephews. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were named.

A single car wreck occurred Sunday November 7 about 34 miles southwest of LeMars on the county blacktop. Wendell Penn was the driver of a 1952 Ford with damage to the windshield and front area. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Penn of LeMars.

Youth Dies in Car Found Dead After Sleep Stop
A 17 year old youth Courtney Sullivan of Av on County was found dead in a car after stopping to sleep. Sheriff Frank Nuni said death occurred between midnight and 4 am. The body lay in the front seat with ignition on. Coroner Marvin Singer ruled death undetermined pending further investigation.
