Fred Forsberg a high school senior who acted as a day fire chief in Le Mars missed his chance to wear the chief’s hat during a Pratt Farm Supply fire. A pedestrian, Frank Thery, was struck by a fire department vehicle while crossing at the bank corner causing minor injuries. The incident occurred as traffic moved and the fire under a stair led to smoke and slight damage.

Wear A Poppy To Honor War Dead Mayor Urges
Le Mars residents were urged to wear a poppy in honor of war dead as Mayor A. G. VanderMeer declared Poppy Day. The proclamation noted sacrifices of young men in three wars and asked citizens to honor them by wearing war memorial flowers. Poppies made by disabled veterans would be distributed by American Legion Auxiliary volunteers on the streets, with contributions collected for veterans and needy children.

Highway Check Yields Licenses and Warnings on Highway 75
Highway patrolmen conducted three checks of MoorLs on Highway 75 south of Lewes Saturday. Tornado Fatalities Reach Nebraska Community
The tornado that hit Hebron Nebraska Sunday injured Mrs. Joseph Kass and killed her. Sister Mary Marcelinda of St Mary school was called to Fairbury early Monday as Mrs. Kass died at midnight Wednesday. The Kass family resided in Hebron while Mrs. Marcelinda stayed to care for the injured widow.
