Auto Thugs Sought After Robbery Suspects

A wrecked 1954 Oldsmobile with Indiana plates was found near Washta linked to Thursday morning robbery at Zinas Standard Service in Le Mars. Two suspects Eugene Alfred Jones 19 and Randall Dial 18 from an Ohio honor farm, plus two youths described by a Cherokee girl, are sought by sheriff Frank Scholer. Police say the car lacked rifles, while two .22 rifles and a .30-30 were found inside. A manhunt expanded along the Cherokee county river area with sheriff units and farmers chasing footprints toward Washta.

Whelan Earns Iowa Outstanding Athlete Honor

No Hail Reported In Storm In Le Mars Area

Storm brought spotty rainfall totals with .36 inches by morning and no hail reported locally. Le Mars Mutual Insurance reported hail claims only up to 10:30 am while nearby towns saw varied rainfall with Des Moines noting golf ball sized hail on the southern edge but not in Le Mars. The squall line from Omaha to Mason City caused brief power outages and dimmed street lights as scattered showers moved east.

The Plymouth County Council of Education Executive Committee met at the Vocational Building Le Mars at 4:00 p m May 1957 to wrap up 1956 57 business and plan for 1957 58. Panther Not Down Says Night Watchman on Highway

Lawrence Kenkel, night watchman for the road crew at Merrill, swore he was not asleep when Don Hughes, a traveling salesman, claimed to have spotted a black panther along highway 75 south of Merit. Kenkel said four men slept in a car that night after failing to find a room, and he heard the horn but did not see or hear a panther.

Record Shows Sales Held Despite Boost In Sales Tax

E. W. Rogers, secretary of the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce, completes a quarterly study comparing October through December 1956 with 1954. Retail sales in Le Mars rose by 39 percent, gaining 400 dollars over the prior period. Estherville and Spencer are noted as other northwest Iowa towns holding or increasing sales amid tax figures.

25th Anniversary Roy and Roy Rigdon Celebrate

Mr and Mrs Roy Rigdon of Le Mars celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary at home on Sunday May 5. The couple have four children Robert Rachael Sheryl and Jane. Daughters presented music and a reading Through the Years. A vesper service ended the evening led by Rev Harry H Meyer. Ground was broken Sunday morning for a new 116000 church edifice of Peace Lutheran bucon at Marcus. First spade of earth was turned by Rev. R. W.
