Woman Attacked by Rabid Racoon Near Paulina

Mrs. Francis Cowan of Paulina was severely bitten and hospitalized after a raccoon attacked her in a friend's yard. Neighbor Gordon Traver shot the animal, whose head was sent to Ames for rabies testing while Mrs. Cowan received hospital care in Cherokee. The animal weighed about 25 pounds and the head was rushed to Des Moines for examination.

Rambler Test Caravan To Stop In Le Mars At Noon

Clyde Coppock of the Gray Company says a Rambler economy test caravan will halt in Le Mars at noon Thursday while traveling from Winnipeg to Monterey Texas. NASCAR officials will record mileage and gasoline use to compare with last year’s 32,009 miles per gallon as prizes are offered for closest mileage guess.

Schools Plan Baccalaureate and Commencement for 16 Seniors

Madrigal Singers Bring Spring Concert to Le Mars

Le Mars FFA Boys Win Iowa Farmer Degree Honors

Le Mars FFA members Marvin Cooper and Wendell Kruse earned the Iowa Farmer degree at the Stan F.F.A. Convention in Cedar Rapids, a high state honor for Future Farmers. Both served as chapter officers and highlighted leadership, scholarship, and community service. Cooper reported 891.83 dollars from supervised farming and 3648.19 from other farming activities, with a net worth of 4654.51, while Kruse posted 5159.92 from supervised farming and 820 from other farming activities, net worth 1816.20. Also attending were David Hawkins, Darrel Lancaster, Milford Herman, Eugene Dominick, Roland Detloff, and Carl Kensil.

Hinton Wins Sectional Baseball Title at Lawton

Hinton defeated Moville 18 to 3 on May 1 and Leeds 3 to 3 in a May 3 game to capture the sectional crown. Dennis Blankenburg struck out 13 in the Leeds win as Hinton overcame an early deficit with two runs in the second and three in the fifth. Le Mars Church Opens Building Fund Campaign

The First Methodist church in Le Mars started a $120,000 building program with $22,000 in unsolicited pledges at Sunday services. The plan spans five to six years and covers interior rearrangement, a new heating system, rewiring, organ rebuilding, and new classrooms. Man Hurt In Hinton Road Crash On Highway 75

Abraham Van Steenwyk 74 of Sioux City was listed in fair condition after a Friday crash on Highway 75 near Hinton. His car struck a bridge railing and rolled into a ditch, injuring his jaw and hand. he underwent surgery at Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. Sheriff Scholer and Patrolman Pelin investigated the incident.

75th Anniversary Service At Calvary Church

Elks club hosted a Wayside Inn fundraiser for the Retarded Children's benefit fund with a barbecued pig and dressing. Calvary Evangelical United Brethren Church marks 75th anniversary with a morning service, notes by Dr G O Thompson, and two honors.
