Rural Fire Department Question To Go To Voters

About 60 township trustees and fire department representatives met in Le Mars to decide to submit rural fire department questions to voters. They weighed general election timing in fall versus June primary, noting costs and the need for township action. An affirmative 60 percent vote would authorize taxes up to 1 1/2 mills, with bonds possible before tax collection. Districts could merge townships with headquarters in Le Mars Oyens Remsen Meadow or other central towns as needed.

25th Anniversary of Mr and Mrs Bill Smid of Kingsley

Mr and Mrs Bill Smid of Kingsley celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with an open house at their home on March 9. A 5 o'clock supper was served with kitchen hosts and a group program followed by singing, readings, and a mock wedding. Mrs F Ahmann Dies in Sioux City Hospital

Mrs F Frank Ahmann 61 of Remsen died Tuesday night in a Sioux City hospital. Born November 22, 1892 in Remsen she was formerly Genevieve Wengler and married Frank Ahmann March 7, 1946. Surviving are her husband and two sons LeRoy Amann of Remsen and Donald Ahmann of Napa California. Funeral services are set for Friday at St Marcus Catholic Church.

Floyd Bank Full But No Flood Here

Rapid thawing of snow north of Le Mars has caused streams to run bank full but no serious flood threat is indicated. Floyd river and West Branch are bank-full with minor overbanking near Merril and James. Weather bureau forecasts additional precipitation but no heavy downpour expected to worsen floods.

Governor Sigurd Anderson pressed the button via telegraphic signal from President Eisenhower, triggering power flowing to Rapid City, with Plymouth County awaiting NIPCO readiness. Burglars robbed the R E A office and warehouse between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. They stole a 15 inch Remington electric typewriter, 40 feet of No 6 weatherproof wire, 250 tech neoprene braided meter loop conductor, and other items valued around 5500. Marriage License Issued at Court House for Sutherland Pair

A marriage license was issued this week at the courthouse for Bruce H. Maller and Myrtie Bhiar, both of Sutherland. The accident occurred around 2 30 PM on Highway 75 near Flow over bridge, when Ronald Steseh, driving a 1983 Dodge South, followed another car that braked suddenly. Foday was moving day for the Town Public Service Co and the move began around noon. By evening the company was ready to operate from the new office two doors north of the Globe Post Office, with a new door to Luken's. Darrel Ketchen, manager, said visitor's day will be held next week for people to look over the new setup.

Milo Price $41,000 Cold Cash in Settlement Talks

In a complex auto accident case Milo Price versus Peter Lenstra, terms of no settlement were filed in Orange City. Price will receive 346,000 in cash after a district court jury awarded him, with interest. The same verdict granted 23,000 to William van Surksum, husband of Lenstra’s niece, whose estate appealed. The parties moved toward compromise after lengthy litigation.

Ireton Holds Graveside for Alfred Smidhaus

Alfred Smidhaus formerly of the Ireton area died recently. Graveside services were held Sunday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton, after Friday plans were postponed by a snow storm. He is survived by his mother and a sister. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Also in Mayor’s Court this week Ernest Dandurand was fined for speeding and Raymond Arnell for faulty equipment.

Banquet Honors Bathers Family at Methodist Church

Major Aloysius J. Rolfes War Service and Family Ties

Major Aloysius J. Rolfes completed a 17 week Fort Benning course on March 17 and received his first commission on February 19, 1943. He served 28 months in the Pacific during World War II, has 44 months active duty and 8 years 4 months reserve time, and earned the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. Rolfes, a Le Mars farmer, is married with two sons, David and Gare, his wife having died about a year ago. He was active in 4-H cadets and local baseball, and is a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. his parents are Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rolfes of Le Mars.

New Christian Reformed Church Plans West Of Oats

The Christian Reformed church led by Pastor Peter Hendred outlines a plan to build a new brick church and pastor’s home at Fourth Ave and Seventh St in SEL.
