Derailment halts Omaha line near Sioux City

Hundreds in Le Mars witnessed a derailment on the Omaha line near the city limits. A 46th car jumped the track and toppled west of 6th Street, with subsequent cars derailing then righting. About 200 yards of track damaged and 30 to 100 feet of new track needed. Shell corn spilled from cars. repair crews worked until service resumed around 2:00 p.m.

Mr and Mrs Jim Ludwig of Remsen celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday April 9 1957 with mass at St Marys church and a family dinner at home. They were married at St Marys on April 9 1907 by Rev Fox Schulte and farmed locally until 1946. No hall celebration is planned.

Members of St Josephs parish Le Mars prepare for the 50th year jubilee of pastor Msgr J D Fisch in early May. The church undergoes redecorating with scaffolding to be removed before the jubilee. The tail end of a western blizzard last night dumped about T inches of snow on the level with no wind or drifts. Rainfall for March nears three inches, normal for the area.
