Start Radio Station Near Le Mars July Groundbreaking

Work on a new Le Mars radio station north of town along Highway 33 will start in about six weeks. Acr oss the road from the Le Mars Sales barns the project will use substantial frame construction and resemble a sand type house. Bob MecCuen will be the manager and is expected to arrive in six weeks to reside during construction and after operation begins. The station will operate with a limited daytime license until full authorization is granted. The FCC licenses more stations for daytime than nighttime to avoid signal overlap on the same channel.

Car Deer Accidents Drop in Early 1954 In Iowa

The State Conservation Commission reports 56 car deer accidents from January 2 to June 2, 1954, with damages totaling 4935. This compares to 99 incidents and 1019 in the prior year period. Accidents were widespread across Iowa. 273 deer were killed in 1953 with about 2007 in damages. Paul Trauffer returned home Saturday from a week in Northern Minnesota.

Le Mars Fire Department responded shortly after midnight to an alarm from New Deal Park. Fire scorched a brush pile near the entrance, causing minor damage as flames flared with a freshening wind. No injuries reported.

Funeral services for Theodore Gengler 68 long time resident who died today at Sacred Heart hospital were held at 9 30 a m Monday at St Man Catholic church Remsen. Local Speeding Plea Fines in Sioux City

John Neunaber of Akron and William G. Anderson of Remsen faced speeding charges after a Sioux City arrest in the 900 block of Terminal Drive. Anderson pleaded guilty Thursday and was fined $10 plus costs.

Three Worthington runaways detained in Plymouth jail

Three 5 year old boys from Worthington Minnesota were found in Hinton after a cafe stop and a freight ride to Le Mars. They admitted running away, helped themselves to cash from a Bell service station, totaling 50 dollars plus two checks, with only two dollars spent. They were jailed in Plymouth county awaiting further action.

Echoes of the citys early days recalled by longtime resident

John Winchester, a 60 year resident, recalls the broken sidewalk at the 1 PS corner once City Hall and the old Cry Scales remains. He remembers coming to Le Mars at 17 and witnessing two horse teams bolt past the City Scales corner, slipping down a south stairway beside Swanson Superstore. Neighbors shouted to free them as the situation unsettled many. Also noted is a trio of local women and Lorraine Haudenschick planning a California vacation.

Court Struck Funeral For Corn Strunk OS

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran church for Corn Strunk OS who died Thursday night after a heart attack. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery at Ireton. Survivors include the widow’s two sons Aaron of Sebeka Minnesota and Walter of Ireton, five brothers Don, Henry and Arthur all of Fairmont Minnesota, William of Carrad Minnesota, and Chitin of Toledo Ohio, and three grandchildren.
