Marines enlistees join Midwest unit from four states
Two Le Mars boys Daniel Taylor and Ronald Wells enlisted in the Marines leaving town for Omaha yesterday. Taylor, a Westmar college student, and Wells, a Gehlen high school graduate, join a planned Midwest Marine Company of about 250 men from Nebraska South Dakota western Iowa and western Minnesota. The unit will train together in San Diego and depart Omaha for final enlistment on July 30. Sergeant Mahlon F. Bennett urged interested youths to contact him for details and to enlist early.

Joseph Ruba of 520 2nd Ave S E Le Mars died at Sacred Heart hospital on June 8 after three years of poor health. He was born April 19 1889 in Remsen and moved to Le Mars in 1940. He married Ruth Swift April 18 1942 in Sioux City. Funeral June 1954 at 9 00 a m St James Catholic with Father Waite officiating burial in St Marys Kemsen. Survived by wife two stepsons three sisters one brother. preceded in death by parents and several siblings.
